Kerollos Makramalla, or “Kero,” to those who know him was born in Whittier, Calif, but has lived in Bellflower, Calif. for most of his life. Kero is a 21-year-old pre-health major who one day hopes to be an athletic trainer and a college professor.
Growing up, Kero was always active in athletics. He played football from age 8 to age 18, as well as various other sports. Kero attended Mayfair High School where he played outside linebacker for all four years on varsity. During this time he also tried his hand at soccer and track & field. In high school, Kero’s love for track and field grew as he competed in the 100 and 200 meter dash, jump and triple jump.
Kero participates on Vanguard’s Track & Field team where he competes in long jump, short sprints and javelin. While talented in all fields, Kero especially loves long jump, where his current personal record is 19ft.
For this season, Kero hopes for his team to take first in this years Golden State Athletic Conference, and desires for his team to send ten people to nationals. Individually, his goal for this year is to simply enjoy himself and get better. Kero really enjoys the team he is on this year and purely wants to have fun while getting to know his teammates better.
In an interview with fellow track & field teammate, Daphni Kilgore mentions, “Kero loves the sport of track and field and he definitely enjoys being on the track and field team.”
Kero is loved not only by his fellow teammates, but also by everyone he comes in contact with. Kero’s outgoing and charming personality is perfectly summed up by a quote from his co-worker Josh Rance, who jokingly says, “Kero’s height to volume ration is quite astounding.”
Aside from athletics, Kero loves to bake. In fact, Kero mentioned that one day he plans to own a bakery. His favorite item to bake is cupcakes due to the fact that they are so versatile and allow for him to be as creative as he desires.
Kero’s favorite Bible verse is John 16:33 because of how he feels that he can relate to its message. Kero loves the idea that God will never leave us, and when we fall, He will pick us back up. Through Jesus, God has been through it all, and Kero loves how God always knows how to help us when we need Him.
Altogether, Kerollos Makramalla is an incredible athlete and friend that any Vanguardian would be privileged to get to know.
