Vanguard University is an institution that students utilize on a daily. However, there are quite a few resources that students don’t know they can use on campus. Some of the major areas that some students fail to use to their fullest advantage are the Health Center, the library, Samson’s closet, and more.
The Health Center is a great resource for all students, commuter and residential students alike. It is located in the Smith building. The Health Center provides counseling, but what most students don’t know is they offer one-time appointments. If you need to talk to a counselor about something specific, a single appointment is available. You can inquire using this link or walk into the Health Center and inquire in person.
Also available at the Health Center is a wall full of useful medical things, including band aids, cough medicine, Tylenol, tampons, pads, etc. All these things are available to students, completely free of charge. There is also an on-site nurse available from 9am – 3pm, Tuesday through Thursday, that can provide some prescriptions and basic checkups. This is also available to students for free. You can book an appointment here or you can email the Health Center at healthcenter@vanguard.edu.
The library also has some amazing options including interlibrary loans. Interlibrary loans is a system where students can borrow physical materials or electronic documents that are owned by another library. In order to place the request, you will need your contact information, the author, the title, the publisher, the year it was published, and more. This service is accessible through this form. You can find more detailed information using this link to a previous article, “Need a Book? Try Interlibrary Loan!” written by Hayvyn Smith.
A lot of students know about Living Well, a free food pantry for students and staff, but they don’t know about its counterpart Samson’s Closet. Samson’s Closet is located down the hall from Living Well in Smith 110, and it is closet full of professional clothing. Students can utilize this resource and get dress pants, jackets, shirts, ties, purses, shoes, and accessories from the closet for free. This is a great resource when you’re preparing for a job interview or have something that requires business professional attire. Students can go to Samson’s Closet anytime Living Well is open, or they can make an appointment using this link.
