Baby on Board

Soul Surfer, Bethany Hamilton and husband Adam Dirks announced that Bethany is pregnant with a boy. She is 22 weeks pregnant and their baby is due early June.

“We have a little surprise for you…baby on board!” Hamilton, 25, says during the announcement video.

Posted on Bethany Hamilton’s official Youtube channel and Official Facebook page, Bethany and Adam were all smiles as they shared the news through the four minute video.

“She’s Pregnant! Yes!” Dirks, a youth pastor yells with excitement.

They know that life will be different once the baby comes, but they are excited for the adventure and are already preparing for the four-month term baby-to-be. No name has been chosen, however Bethany says that they are “prowling” for a good one.

Currently, she is still enjoying the surf scene and competed in the Pipeline, but understands that soon she will have to slow her love of surfing down and just swim in the ocean for leisure.

“Once the belly’s pretty big, maybe [I’ll] just mellow it out and spend more time swimming, just enjoying the ocean, and doing other activities,” Hamilton informs.

In 2003, Hamilton had to adjust to life without her left arm after a shark attack in Hawaii. She says that she will use the same type of positive and creative attitude to adjust to being a mom with one arm.

“There’s going to be things that will be very challenging with one arm, but I’ll just have to find my own way to take care of this baby. Of course, I’’ have Adam to help, but if he’s out and about busy, I’ll have to… figure it out and be creative,” Hamilton explains.
Husband of about two years, Dirks is ready for the adventure of being a dad on and off the shore. He shares that they know they will have to find a balance and that he will do what is necessary to help Bethany.
“Changing diapers on the beach while Bethany is out there surfing some gnarly wave. I’m all for that and I’m just going to be really stoked to be a dad!” Dirks proclaims.
