Amidst the chaos and stress from her last year of college, senior Celina Frenn released her new book, “Untouchable”, on this last December as an eBook on Amazon, and will soon release the physical hardcover copy in April. The eBook is 395 pages and is the first book of a trilogy that Frenn is planning to write.
The fantasy-fiction book follows the main character, Dane, a superpowered “sensor” who struggles to control the most stubborn of the seven elements, the earth. When he discovers that his race of people is at risk for extinction, he creates a plan that has a chance of saving them, but when a beautiful and mysterious woman named Natasha, who has the power of the sea at her fingertips, suddenly appears, she ends up throwing his world into conflict.
Natasha hasn’t seen another human being in two centuries and by a twist of fate, she is forced to travel with Dane. She must learn to trust him, while he must learn to become a man and fight for the girl he loves. In their hands lies the fate of an entire population as the pair fight to prevent genocide.
The release of “Untouchable” was meaningful to Frenn because a dream of hers was to get published before graduating college. “I definitely felt like it was more significant, and it gives me a sense of peace that before the stress and adult mindset that the world forces upon you sets in, I have done something I have wanted to do since I was a child,” Frenn said.
She continued, saying, “I have loved writing since I was little. At first it served as an escape. I thought that if I didn’t like where I was in life, I could make a better world. I have always had a passion for creating new worlds, and new characters.
Frenn has been writing “Untouchable” for the last seven years, starting during her freshman year of high school, but it was during her junior year of college the idea of a full-length novel came about. Managing the stresses of college meant that a lot of her editing and rewriting took place during her summer and winter breaks.
The inspiration for the novel came from just unplugging from her surroundings and plugging in her headphones and listening to different types of music. Frenn describes a particular musical inspiration moment saying, “The song that began to play was Coldplay’s “Clocks,” and suddenly the idea of my two main characters fighting in a cave came to me. And from there the ideas just began to grow.”
Frenn achieved one of her lifelong goals a few months short of ending her college years. Her advice to other writers, dreamers, and students is, “Start. I know that sounds silly, but it’s the excuses that keep you from getting what you want.”
The book is about loss, friendship, heartbreak, love, loyalty, war and betrayal, and has themes that readers can relate to and still get their fix of fantasy. “Untouchable” is available on Amazon under her pen name C.M. Frenn. Readers should keep their eyes peeled for the physical copy of “Untouchable” and the two next books in the trilogy coming soon.
