Vanguard University plans to start renovations and upgrades of the Scott Academic Center only once donations from alumni and friends reaches seven million dollars with hopes of avoiding debt financing.
These renovations and upgrades include “a new exterior to the existing Scott building, changing it to a Santa Barbara style of architecture reflected in Heath and Needham Chapel,” said Kelly Kannwischer, the Vice President of University Advancement.
“There will be a new courtyard with a food services facility for takeout dining,” she says. “And there will be a new three-story building adjacent to the east side of Scott, between the current Scott building and the Nursing relocatable building. The Nursing building and the Mailroom building will be relocated or removed.”
It is the University’s goal that the renovations will be completed 12 months after they begin. “The start date has not been set as it is dependent on the fundraising campaign. But it will not be this summer. They may be some preparatory projects that will be happening this summer to clear underground lines from the area of the new building addition. But those are not the main project,” Kannwischer said.
Vanguard University is looking to upgrade its ‘front door’ and the Scott Academic Center is only the beginning of the projects the university has in store. Because of the new classroom and office space it will provide enough room to remove the relocatable buildings next to the library. The relocation will make room for plans for a new cafeteria and theatre lobby project.
“This is an exciting first project of several that are planned to give us more classrooms and more student spaces. Future capital expansions under consideration include a new cafeteria, a state of the art library, and a student union building,” said Kannwischer.
The plans for the Scott Academic Center renovations and upgrades provide a look into the future and what is in store for Vanguard University.
