What Tuesday Really Means

Once a week Taco Tuesday rolls around and the decisions on where to purchase your perfect taco may arise. As college students, spending your money wisely is an important consideration because, of course, you don’t want to waste it; especially not on a bad taco. Fortunately, within 4.1 miles from campus there are 4 great deals on Taco Tuesday all less than $2.00 a taco.

The closest stop to Vanguard would be The Cabo Grill. Being located in the Starbucks parking lot right across from campus makes it accessible and convenient. Here’s the deal: on not only Tuesdays, but also Fridays, you can get any of their basic tacos for only $1. On any other day tacos start at $2.95 a piece, beef being their most popular. This small authentic shop provides indoor seating and a chips-and-salsa bar with extra purchase.

The next closest Taco Tuesday to consider is Taco Mesa. A little past Triangle Square, along 19th Street you’ll find the vibrant shop with a heated outdoor patio. All day Taco Tuesday is offered at a going rate of $1.35 a taco with 7 different options to pick from. Normally their tacos start at $2.75, which gives you a little more than a dollar off. The favorite and most popular choice you might consider trying is their greasy chicken taco. This authentic tasting taco is loaded with plenty of toppings and flavor served fresh from the grill.

A popular and well-known Taco Tuesday that is a favorite to many Vanguard students is Café Rio. Located at 253 17th street, this bustling shop provides you with a Chipotle styled assembly line. Their options are as simple as pork, chicken, or beef tacos topped with whatever extras you would like. Starting at $1.95 a taco, as compared to their regular price of $2.75, Café Rio offers rice, beans, and a drink for just $2 more. Pork tacos are the most admired selection amongst customers and you can choose to enjoy it on an outside patio or an indoor, self-seated colorful environment.

The last location is only 4.1 miles away from campus and right across from the Newport Pier at 2800 Avila’s El Ranchito. This vivacious, lively atmosphere has a great Taco Tuesday deal starting at only $5. For this solid price you can get a wristband permitting you to an all-you-can-eat taco bar for endless helpings all night. The taco bar gives you the freedom to choose between chicken or beef, plus a plethora of toppings and chips and salsa. Looking for a place to sit can be difficult at Avila’s but the chances of you striking up a conversation with someone is greater than not. If you feel like walking in to sit any day of the week, their regular tacos start at $5.45 a piece. The Crispy Chicken Tacos are the customer’s favorite and highly recommended by the hostesses.

There are plenty of places around campus to get a great Taco Tuesday deal, the closest being the Cabo Grill, then Taco Mesa, Café Rio, and lastly Avila’s, giving any Vanguard student an abundance of decisions to explore, experience, and eat at!
