A yoga studio membership can cost upwards of $90 to $200 per month. For most students, this kind of money is necessary to survive, not for pleasure. There are multiple free opportunities for exercise in Orange County and you do not need to travel too far from campus to experience the joy of completely free workouts.
The first stop for free work outs is at Fashion Island Newport Beach at Lulu Lemon
Athletica. While Lulu Lemon is primarily known for its hundred-dollar yoga pants,
it makes up for it with free, professional yoga classes in the store every Sunday. From
9:30-10:30 a.m., certified yoga instructors give free lessons to anyone who comes. No mat?
No problem! Lulu Lemon will even give you a mat to use during your yoga class.
This class is great for all levels of yoga, whether it is your first time or you
have already mastered the art of tree position and down dog.
Next is Huntington Beach. Surf City USA offers some great free yoga classes. For early birds, a group meets at Manning park on the corner of Delaware and Detroit Street on Mondays
and Fridays from 6:30-7:30 a.m. This class is taught by many different certified yoga
instructors who also teach at yoga studios throughout Orange County. This class is
great for all levels of yogis. To attend this class all that is required is that you RSVP on
their website, openskyyoga.com.
For beach lovers, there is a class offered on Sundays from 10-11:30 a.m. This class is taught right on the beach at tower 14 at PCH and 14th street and is perfect for all levels. This class is free, but requires that participants RSVP at meetup.com/wide-open-spaces-yoga-huntington-beach/events/53914382.
For a weekday yoga fix, the best place to go would be “Yoga in the Park with Carl Brown” in Laguna
Beach. Carl Brown is a certified yoga instructor whose class takes place Monday-Thursday from 8-9:30 a.m. at a park on the grounds of the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. Talk about an amazing and relaxing venue! This class works perfectly for all levels.
Finally, for those willing to drive a little bit further, “Yoga at the Loop” is an excellent free class for more advanced yogis. This is a Vinyasa Flow class that takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturdays at Califia Park in San Clemente. This class works up an amazing sweat and comes with a beautiful view of the San Clemente pier and beach.
