On TikTok, influencers could be the next top artist, but many netizens have mixed opinions. As a source of entertainment, influencers, use the social media platform, TikTok, to promote their newfound music career, which people are against.
Over the years, music genres have begun to expand, and influencers have been given the spotlight. Most notably some have received popularity through social media platforms, such as TikTok, where they promote their new music. These people have risen to fame through TikTok and have created a controversial topic on whether or not they are truly ‘artists’ or just influencers trying to get more fame.
Many influencers owe their fame to social media for their songs and content becoming viral. Some become big, while others have just a one-hit wonder. Artists become noticeable with one song, but after the popularity dies down, they are forgotten.
Songs that were viral from artists such as Bella Poarch, Dixie D’Amelio, and many more have been quite notable when mentioned to some people. A UCR student, Wendy Garcia says, “ I have heard some songs from unknown artists on TikTok, but once I hear their discography, they are not very good.”
They use their fame through TikTok to gain even more popularity for their music. Netizens argue that they are not true artists because they did not rise to fame through their music, but rather TikTok videos, which some find annoying.
Alyssa Guzman from Daily Mail, says, “Gen-Z app TikTok has been blamed for ruining concerts as influencer wannabes vie for artists’ attention, try to outsing performers, and do anything to get content for a viral video.”
Influencers have made a huge impact on social media platforms. Their constant need to create a viral video steers people from listening to their songs because it is ‘cringeworthy’ or ‘embarrassing,’ but sometimes that is not the case.
Music is universal, where people come together to admire and appreciate the distinct singers, regardless of their background. Music moves people, whether in a different language or completely off the charts with one’s style preference.
American rapper, Macklemore said, “ Sometimes music all makes sense. It brings you to beautiful places, meeting amazing people and you become reminded why you create.”
Influencers may have a bad reputation for their content, but seeing them get out there and expand their content, takes courage. Taking that leap to go beyond what they are initially planned for makes them notable, regardless of what others say. So, they could potentially be the next top artists.
