Last Thursday’s harvest party, “The Masquerade”, was put together by SGA. It took place in Scott. Several students attended dressed up for the fun night. Some of their costumes were Zombie Girls, Star Wars characters, Grey’s Anatomy residents and attendings, Hot Dog Girls, Winnie the Pooh and pals, Devil Egg Girl, Kylie Jenner, a Police Officer, a Donut, a Coffee Cup and The Three Ganster thieves, The Frat Boys and many more.
In Scott’s first floor, there was a photo booth station and a waltz instructor. The waltz instructor taught a couple of steps to the attendees. Students were free to dance in the patio. Upstairs there were different stations of games and prizes. There were caramel apples, nachos and plenty of candy.
The haunted house was the best part. It took place in Newport building and was put together by Balboa/Newport’s resident assistants and student volunteers. This year’s theme was “The Estate Sale.” Christian Rivera, one of Balboa’s RAs says, “This year’s haunted house made me extremely pleased with the work we put into it… Compared to last year’s, it definitely has progressed and you can tell it wasn’t Balport’s first rodeo.” Asia Perrin, one of Newport’s RAs shares, “It was fun to be a part of. To see it go from plans on a paper to actually happening was really cool. Even though I was a part of it, I still was scared! The best part was hearing people’s screams.”
This year’s haunted house had students transported in hay rides from Scott to Newport. Those who went on the ride, had a groundskeeper of the estate who shared a few things about the story. Then, the students were taken to the “welcome room” where apple cider and banana bread were served. The estate salesman gave a tour of the first floor. Unfortunately, he “died” at the end of first floor’s tour and was replaced by a ghost salesman. The ghost salesman gave the tour of the second floor. Right before the last room, people bet on the house and the highest better, along with the others were taken to the “basement” to see their prize. The last room was the “basement.” That is where the ghost announces that the house is his and is furious that someone is attempting to buy his house. After a good scream, the group ran out of the room terrified. “The Masquerade” Harvest Party was outstanding. I cannot wait for next year.
