The 2015 Vanguard Intramural Softball season is underway. This year, seven teams are competing this year to take the trophy. To many softball supporters surprise, the Faculty/Staff team is off to a hot start as they head into their bye week this Sunday, standing atop the standings at 3-0. On Oct. 11, they will be competing against the team 2 Sweet, in hopes to remain undefeated on the season.
Six teams take the field on Sunday’s while one team takes a week off. Each team is required a minimum of 4 males and 4 females, and has a minimum 9 player active roster.
John Wilson, Vanguard University history professor says, “I love intramural softball. I’ve been playing second base between Sony Mitchell on first and Beth Renkoski on third for about 25 years and filling in the other positions as people come and go to our faculty and staff. It’s a great chance to interact with students outside the classroom.”
Professor Wilson doesn’t know who the team’s biggest competition is yet.
Wilson continues, “I thought Got the Runs looked scary, especially after we were down 4-0 in the first, but we survived that scare. Anyways, win or lose, it’s a lot of fun.”
As it stands today, Got The Runs is only a game back of Faculty/Staff, followed by The Hot Hitters, 2 Sweet, Victorious Secret, Team USA, and The Misfits. The Misfits look to get their first win of the season on Oct. 4 against The Hot Hitters as they have been living up to their team name, sitting at the bottom of the standings.
