Spring Break is approaching rapidly, and many of us aren’t quite ready for it. This vacation for most students is the first vacation we have had since Christmas, and our destination needs to be chosen wisely. A safe rule to follow is the 4 “B’s” rule… 3 of which I can mention in this article: Bargain, Body, Behaving. Bargains are key to a great Spring Break, as we all are poor college students spending the last of our financial aid money on this trip. Websites like Groupon and Living Social post great “All-in-One” vacations which include flight and hotel for relatively cheap prices. Another safe bet would be an American friendly part of Mexico, like Cabo or Baja. Though “TJ” has been known as a destination for decades on this holiday, I don’t recommend it… Cabo is a great place to spend a little amount on a hotel that won’t give you lice, while being able to spend a little money elsewhere on more important things… like non-alcoholic beverages and overpriced tanning oil.
Our bodies need to be on point for spring break. Scarfs and sweaters will get you no where this holiday! Unfortunately, it is too late to start a Pilates membership or get liposuction. If shedding some unwanted weight isn’t attainable in the time we have left before spring break, live by this motto: “If you can’t tone it, tan it!”. A great tan will help hide anything you may consider a problem area. Another trick is to remember is to keep those pearly whites looking bright! For those of us who didn’t “wake up like this”, teeth whitening is essential and will make yourself look healthier in just a few minutes. The cheapest way is to go get whitening strips from any convenient store. Name brands are expensive, but trusted as those teeth will be with you for life. With less than two weeks, three to four teeth whitening applications can do wonders on the past six months of wear-and-tear from coffee and mornings when you “forget” to brush your teeth (EW).
And lastly, a juice cleanse is a quick and easy way to shed a few pounds and bring on a healthy glow. Normal juice cleanses range from one to three days and can boost metabolism and energy. Nekter Juice bar on 17th street in Costa Mesa offers a convenient 1-3 day juice cleanse for a decent price, and they are already pre-made. Anything that is “pre-made” is like heaven to a college students ears. Just remember to stay away from any products or weight loss supplements that aren’t legal in the US, or can be used as rat poison or can remove stains from clothing.
And last but not least, remember to behave on your spring break. After doing your bargain hunting for the right spot and getting your body in fair shape with little to no time, scoping out the scene is the next step. But remember, you are still on Vanguard contract, even while in another country working on your tan. Beware of the whole “Tall, Dark and Handsome” bombshell on the beach, and remember to use the buddy system! It may even be fun to use a fake name, and never give out personal emails or Instagram names. The whole “What happens on Spring Break, stays on spring break” gets a little blurry when dealing with todays society. The last thing you need is the world knowing you left your dignity somewhere in a foreign country. Have fun, be safe, and remember to use sun screen and keep it classy… because ending up on the news isn’t cute.
