Vanguard University welcomes back alumni and friends during Homecoming week, January 30-February 1. Homecoming allows for alumni to reconnect and enjoy a lovely weekend in the place they once called home as well as provide some special events for current Vanguard students.
Thursday evening, there will be a Delivery Boys & Entouräge Reunion. Delivery Boys and Entouräge are comedy groups that made a comeback to Vanguard this past year and will now celebrate 25 years of ministry. This show will feature both current and alumni ministry teams.
Friday evening will be set aside to honor alumni, loyal fans, and coaches. This year’s inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame include Diana Ortiz for her meritorious service, athlete Kevin Carlson from the class of ’96, Women’s Basketball Coach Russ Davis, the 1990 Men’s Basketball team, and the 1995 Softball team.
Starting off the festivities on Saturday will be a 5K Run for Mercy. This testifies to the emphasis Vanguard puts on community. This year, the run benefits Candance Segrove and her family.
Candance’s two-year-old son, Edmond, suffers from a brain disorder called “lissencephaly.” This year’s run will help to provide the funds needed for Edmond to receive the medical attention he needs. The cost for the 5K is $15.
Upon finishing the 5K there will be a Homecoming Celebration Party on the Campus Mall where there will be a kids zone, live music, and an In-N-Out truck.
Saturday night gives both current students and alumni an opportunity to experience the excitement of a basketball game in The Pit and cheer on our nationally ranked teams! The #1 Women’s team plays at 5:30pm and the #12 Men’s team play at 7:30pm.
