Vanguard’s favorite comedy teams have made a comeback after a two year hiatus and officially announcing the return at the Entourage and Delivery Boys Reunion Show on April 22nd. Entourage and Delivery Boys are being revamped and brought back starting the summer of 2014 under the Spiritual Formation Department and Entourage Alumnus Sybra Dacy.
“It used to be under the Admissions office… it wasn’t being fulfilled in the purpose that it was in. That’s why they brought it to the Spiritual Formation Department. They really saw that the heart of these groups was to minister to [students] at camps,” Dacy said.
Delivery Boys started out in 1989 by Virgil Zeigler. He wanted to give college students an opportunity to serve in youth ministry by hanging out with middle and high-schoolers and showing them what it is like to live a godly lifestyle. Each year, a team was sent out to camps for nine weeks (plus one week of break in between) to be with the students, whether putting on skits, washing dishes, or just hanging out. Delivery Boys Alumnus, Darryn “Fish” Fisher was one of the few young men who had the opportunity to serve on such a unique team and ministry.
“[Delivery Boys] was something I had always thought about doing ever since I heard about Vanguard, so it was a huge honor to be apart of a team [during summer 2007],” Fisher said.
For the summer of 2014, the hiring process will be similar to that of the student leader hiring process, except that it will take place in September to October later this year.
“We want them to be fully trained by the time they go out in the summer. We’ll have a process of applications, interviews, auditions and callbacks. The teams will be hired from November to the next November,” Dacy said, “You would typically travel the whole summer… and you’d be back before leadership retreat.”
Spiritual Formation wants to give as many people an opportunity as possible, so they are working to try to have students in student leadership positions able to audition for Entourage or Delivery Boys if interested. The department is also looking to possibly add in an administrative, media intern, theater intern, and even understudies to the teams sometime in the future.
“We are definitely looking to expand this. We might have worship teams, drama teams, dance teams, or whatever the students bring to us… Technically, the Office of Spiritual Formation is called the Performing Arts Ministry Teams, so it’s not limited to just these two comedy teams,” Dacy said.
<[>As the school year nears a close, preparations for the new and improved Entourage and Delivery Boys teams will begin. Many current students and alumni will be looking forward to what they will have to offer this time around.
