I think the big question is, “Where was God in all of this?” And here is the answer, “Right there in it.”
When tragedy hits America steps back in confusion and anger, waving a fist to the heavens, asking, “Why!?”
Why didn’t God stop it? Why did this have to happen? Does He even care? If so, then why didn’t He end it?
The questions go on and on and the world just seems to get worse and worse. It is easy to get stuck in the rut that many others let themselves sit in. This rut of frustration. Theres a burning frustration towards God. A God, that in most people’s minds, should stop the evil. If He is almighty, all knowing, all powerful, then He should stop it.
He should stop the earthquakes before they cause whole cities to crumble. He should silence the voices in a mans head before he murders many. He should put an end to ISIS and the threats from North Korea. We look at Him and sometimes think, “What are you doing? We’re dying down here.”
Here is how I believe He responds. I see Him on his throne, but His hearth right her with us. I see him saddened and devastated, more so than we even are. What I believe he speaks over our questions transcends all that. What if He said, “I love oh so much. This hurts my heart yes, but I gave you this free will. You’ve created this. You chose this over me. You created a world like this.”
Now, I don’t believe that this is all He says. I know He pairs it with the sweet reminder that He is coming back, and He will completely redeem this world we live in, that this world that is a mess, just longing to be cleaned up. But I still fully believe we live in the world that we created, out of sinful our nature.
And, if we created it, we can change it. How you may ask? Well, for starters we can pray for our leaders. Wouldn’t that be interesting? If we all started praying from President Donald Trump, I wonder what that would do. We can help and love and be the lights we are called to be. We can represent Jesus here on earth and try with ever fiber in our being to choose the way of our Lord.
Then maybe, just maybe when we look for God in the tragedy, we will see Him bursting through in one another.
