It’s back. It’s popular. And it’s in high demand! The improvisational comedy team is kicking off their first show tonight at 9:00pm in the Lyceum Theater. Admission is free.
Back by Popular Demand is the Theatre Improv troupe that was created by a handful of Theatre seniors last year. This years’ line-up consists of Sheridan Smith, Jake Kragerud, Kate Frampton, Gregory Spalding, Winter Bassett, Brannon Andrews and Austin Nunn.
The leader of Popular Demand this year is Junior Kate Frampton who says that her mission this year is “to connect theatre students to the rest of the student body so that theatre seems more inclusive and becomes apart of a bigger community.” The improv team, similarly to Spiritual Formation’s “D-Boys” and “Entourage” focuses on acting out sketches on student interests ranging from Vanguard quips about staff and faculty to full scale improvisation games where each member of the team gets a chance to show off their clever abilities.
The fan favorites in the past have been improv scenarios where the group uses members of the audience’s phones and reads their text messages in a scene. Others include “Good, Bad, and Worst” as well as “Late for Work” where one member of the team walks onstage to find a scenario acted out by other members which will help him explain why in fact he is late for work.
Come check out the first show opening tonight, October 9th at 9:00 in Lyceum Theater!
