It’s been about a month since the NHL lockout ended, and after losing 625 games, the season is now in full swing. There are several teams in the Western and Eastern Conferences that are looking promising this season. To celebrate this season, we’re highlighting the top four teams in the NHL.
1. Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks seem to be taking the NHL by storm this season. In twelve games they have ten wins, no losses, and only two overtime losses. This leaves them with a total of twenty-two points after a 3-0 win over the Predators.
Patrick Kane leads the team with nine goals and ten assists. Kane has proven to be a great asset to the team. He had one goal and three shots-on-goal against the Predators Sunday night. Kane has nineteen points this season with his teammate, Marian Hossa, trailing with twelve.
If the Blackhawks keep up the way that they are playing, their season promises to be exciting.
2. New Jersey Devils
The Devils grabbed hold of the number two spot after beating the Penguins Sunday night 3-1. With the win, the Devils have eight total wins, one loss, and three overtime losses, equaling nineteen points.
The leading scorer on the team is right wing David Clarkson, with nine goals and six assists for fifteen points. He showed his puck prowess in Sunday’s game, scoring two neat goals.
Another standout player for the Devils is goalie Martin Brodeur who has a .911 save percentage this season and has 237 saves.
3/4. Anaheim Ducks / Boston Bruins
Anaheim and Boston have very similar standings at this point in the season. If we look at points alone, they are tied for third. However, if we look a little closer at the numbers and the playing style of each team, there are strong differences.
The Anaheim Ducks have eight wins, two losses, and one overtime loss in eleven games, which racks up to seventeen total points. This season, they added a few new players including Daniel Winnick and Sheldon Souray, who are both among the top five forwards and defensive players on the team.
Longtime Duck Teemu Selanne is the number one player with fourteen overall points, stemming from four goals and ten assists. Behind him is Saku Koivu, who has been with the Ducks since 2009, with four goals and nine assists for thirteen points.
In ten games, the Boston Bruins have similar standings with eight wins, one loss, and one overtime loss for a total of seventeen points as well. That makes this season their best start ever.
Brad Marchand was not expected to play this past Sunday against the Sabres, as he was listed with an undisclosed injury. He was seen warming up and then stunned the crowd with his goal in the second period. He now leads the Bruins in scoring with six goals and one assist.
All four teams play this Tuesday, including Blackhawks vs. Ducks at 5:30 PT.
