Diversity Department Hosts Open Mic Night

The diversity program always has great events and activities throughout the school year. One of the most popular events the Diversity Department hosts is Open Mic Night, which will take place on Monday, October 15th in the Scott courtyard.

The theme is going to be “Take off your mask; masquerade without the dress up.” Those hosting the event have a passion for the art of spoken word poetry and believe it is a great way for people to express themselves.

Spoken word poetry can be performed in many different ways. Some people like to perform while music is being played in the background and others enjoy sharing without any music. It is a unique way for people to get involved because people from all types of cultural backgrounds participate in events like these. Even if someone is not musically inclined they can still express themselves through the words they have prepared to share with others.

Diversity Intern and Senior David Kaisa is eager for the event to take place. “Do not miss out,” Kaisa said. “It is by far the best event on the campus as far as for the students that come to share their heart with others.”

The idea of hosting an open mic night on Vanguard’s campus is a great way for everyone to get together and express themselves in whatever way they feel comfortable. There is a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere and it is awesome to be able to hear what other people have to say.

The diversity program will also be hosting another event coming up this month in which they will show a screening of a documentary titled “Speaking Up.” It is about the cultural and identity struggles students at a Christian University Face.

Sophomore Shannon Little will be hosting the event. The open mic event will be a great time of fellowship and there will be food and entertainment.
