On October 17, 2023, Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Dr. Kang, will be organizing and moderating a Christian-Muslim Dialogue on Women’s Rights and Religious Freedom in the Muslim World.
The event will include two main speakers: Shirin Taber, Director of Empower Women Media and Christian dialogue partner; and Soraya Deen, Co-Chair of the Women’s Working Group at the International Religious Freedom Roundtable and Muslim dialogue partner. Here is a little more information to get you acquainted with our guests.
Director Taber is an Iranian-American and Executive Director of Empower Women Media. She has partners with government, media, business, and NGO leaders to help promote religious freedoms and women’s rights. She has also authored a book titled Muslims Next Door, and partakes in leading a women’s film festival, media fellowship programs, and an online course, Live What You Believe.
Soraya Deen is a lawyer and Muslim feminist. She is and award-winning international activist and has experience as a community organizer. Her work priorities include human rights and dignifying women of faith. Deen is also currently the Co-Chair of the Women’s Working Group at the international Religious Freedom Roundtable in DC and Founder /President of Muslim Women Speakers. She is also reading for her Public Leadership Credentials at Harvard University.
