Whether you’ve resided in Costa Mesa for years, or have recently moved to the area, homeless is something you have probably witnessed. Instead of turning away and avoiding the discomfort that may come when seeing a homeless person, let’s attempt to assess the situation and see how to help.
The city of Costa Mesa is equipped with resources available to those in need, specifically the homeless community. Aside from hotlines and donating meals, Costa Mesa is also partnering with Mercy House Living Center to provide shelter for homeless individuals. A recent article by Voice of OC states that OC officials have recently approved a $2 million year long contract with Mercy House with hopes for providing more shelter for homeless individuals.
Interactions with homeless individuals have brought to light the fact that most homeless people are not given these resources unless they come in contact with police officers after public violations. The hope is to make these resources more accessible and available to vulnerable communities so that they can get the help they need as soon as possible.
Below is a photo by the Costa Mesa Government website that lists all of the resources available to homeless people in need. Be an advocate for the less fortunate, and make yourself aware of these resources so that if an opportunity arises to help a neighbor in need, you will be equipped to do so.
