The “new” Bruce Lindsay café has been open for over a year. The Bruce Lindsay Café replaced the old cafe and Samson’s Café.
The new opening promised more food options and a better dining area for students.
In a post from Vanguard University’s website, it described the new café, “Bruce Lindsay Cafe – A 7,500 square feet all-day and light night food service that has savory and sweet treats available for purchase.”
Café manager Katy Cvitanich expressed that she felt the new café has improved options.
“The new Bruce Lindsay Café gives us the ability to provide a much wider array of food options to the Vanguard community. The old caf only had two stations (Comfort and Global), which meant we were limited in the amount of food we could cook and serve at any one time,” said Cvitanich.
She continued to state, “We’re now able to cook made-from-scratch pizza in our new oven as well as burgers, chicken sandwiches, and fire-roasted vegetables on our grill. We also now give students the ability to make their own fresh sandwiches and salads instead of pre-made GO options, offering increased choice and customization and greatly benefitting those who experience food allergies.”
“Meal replacements have changed drastically since the introduction of the new Bruce Lindsay Café. In the previous system, meal replacements were always at Samson’s Café, but now all dining options are in one centralized location. Now, meal replacements are a make-your-own sandwich and salad bar, and during late-night dining hours, students can purchase GO meals. Meal replacements are still available in between meals and during night dining. The centralized location of the dining options is what has allowed for the new café options.
Cvitanich stated, “We’re thrilled to have centralized our dining services at Vanguard under one roof. At Bruce Lindsay, all members of the Vanguard community, regardless of whether or not they have a meal plan, can dine together. This fact, combined with the increase in our capacity to provide a wide variety of delicious food options, makes us very happy with the transition to the new caf,” said Cvitanich.
Currently one of the Café’s biggest challenges is those poised by COVID-19 restrictions, supply chain disruptions, and the labor shortage, “In addition to needing to implement rigorous health and safety measures as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, the virus has also caused second and third-order disruptions to the labor market and our supply chains. Unfortunately, we are not alone in facing these challenges. A wide variety of industries have been impacted, with restaurants and the hospitality industry dealing with product shortages, in particular. We continue to aggressively recruit new employees to join our team at Vanguard and work with our corporate purchasing team to source appropriate or alternative products when shortages arise,” stated Cvitanich.
