Vanguard University’s Theatre Department is going full-steam ahead with their new season of plays. From performers to directors, Vanguard’s Theatre Production Team is working on the shows of this exciting season. The Lyceum Theatre kicked off the season with “Peter and the Starcatcher” directed by Caitlin Harjes. Shortly after, “A Doll’s House,” went straight to production.
There is one more production for the school year, “Holiday Inn”, which opened on November 18, 2022.
The Spring season will have five different productions, including two of American Coast Theatre Company shows with professional actors. This Spring season line up is: The Drowsy Chaperone, Play On, One Act: An Evening with Shakespeare, ACTC’s Forever Plaid and ACTC’s Around the World in 80 Days.
With dramas, comedies and dramas, this spring’s theatre season will show a wide variety of genres for people of all ages. Aside from ACTC productions, all cast members consist of our very own theatre majors pursuing careers in acting, production or studio design. These students are a huge part in making these shows come to life.
In an interview with Caitlin Harjes, Director for Peter and the Starcatcher and Theatre Manager, she explains her joys of not only directing but preparing for the upcoming shows.
“My experience in directing here was a fast paced one, we only had 4 weeks of rehearsal and tech before opening our show and we all had to be on top of our game to get it up and running,” says Caitlin. “But through the stress of that, it was such a joy. It was hard to leave the rehearsal space without a smile on my face and that’s all thanks to my cast and crew.”
Theatre majors and minors, theatre staff and long-time patrons are excited for the upcoming productions.
“We have a fun season of shows that are sure to bring in a variety of guests, but I am most excited to see the cast of Holiday Inn tapping their hearts out in a couple weeks. They have all worked so hard!” says Caitlin.
