Costa Mesa, Ca – Vanguard University’s Communication Department has grown into an involved environment with students passionate in concentrations expanding from Public Relations to the Film Industry. The Communication Department is excited to announce a brand-new concentration and minor being offered in the Fall 2022 semester: Sports Media minor and Health Communications concentration.
The Sport Media minor will be open to student in all majors and Health Communications will be a concentration offered only to Communications majors.
In an interview with the Associate Professor Chair of the VU Communication Department, Naomi Kasa, she offered an in depth look at the new changes and the importance of these new opportunities.
She was shown how incredibly vital it is for patients to have advocates through her own experience of navigating a healthcare system that doesn’t understand chronic conditions. Doctors need to have communication skills, and society needs to be more aware and inclusive when it comes to the disability community.
Kasa said, “Vanguard has an opportunity to train students to be difference-makers in the healthcare system—to have a Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered impact on attitudes, policies and systems that affect us all.”
The new Sport Media minor has been frequently asked for and will be offer this upcoming Fall Semester. The sport media business in the LA/OC metro area is a multi-billion-dollar industry– one of the largest in the country.
“We are especially excited about our partnership with University Athletics, which will enable students in the minor to gain hands-on professional experience, have their work seen by a broad audience, and compile a portfolio of work that will help them be job-ready after graduation,” explained Kasa.
Sports Media Minor and Health Communication Concentration will be offered as of Fall 2022 and launch a brand-new opportunity for not only Communication Majors but students across VU.
