Vanguard’s Activate initiative and the PAC (Pride Athletics Committee) are throwing a pre-game tailgate party today at 6pm at the Balport sand volleyball courts.
The tailgate party will create the opportunity for students to get pumped up and excited to watch the men’s basketball team take on the Chapman University Panthers at 7:30pm. The event will include hot dogs, root beer floats, games, and face painting provided by Activate memebers. VU’s mascot, Samson, will also be making an appearance at the tailgate party.
While this marks yet another promising event for the Activate initiative, it also concludes PAC. After careful thought and consideration, Student Programming VP, Candace Henriquez, decided that having PAC and Activate, two groups who were essentially trying to accomplish the same task, was not necessary.
Students can still be involved and show their school spirit at athletic events, the only difference is that Activate will be facilitating all school-wide spirit events from now on.
Henriquez spoke about PAC’s disbanding, “It is really sad to have to say goodbye to PAC, but it definitely makes sense. Why have two separate entities on campus who are trying to accomplish the same goals? In the end, it makes more sense and lessens the time commitments of some students.”
Although PAC will no longer be in effect, there will still be plenty of opportunities for students to get involved with Gold Pride life on campus, so let’s make this year the proudest one yet!
