On Thursday March 12, eight of the finest Vanguard gentlemen will showcase their talent and charisma on stage, seeking to claim the Mr. VU crown. Following the theme for the event: “The Real World: Celebrities”, each of the chosen misters will take on the role of their celebrity look-alike. The event will take place at 9:30pm in NMC.
Last Thursday, March 5, Vanguard’s Student Government Association (SGA) released the names of the nominees.
This year’s Mr. Laguna is the current fourth floor RA, Jonathan Vazquez. With his Adam Sandler inspired looks and humor, it is no wonder that the Laguna girls chose him to represent their building.
The Catalina girls casted their votes in the favor of current senior and former Delivery Boy member, Vincent Catalina. The Matthew McCaughey look-a-like is known for his quick wit and memorable humor. Alongside Mr. Laguna and Mr. Catalina stands cross-country runner, Jared Shohfi, standing in as Mr. Balport. Shohfi will be taking on role of Adam Levine, a man he bears close resemblance to in both looks and confidence.
Mr. Commuter is the bike-riding hipster, Austin Baffa. The Shia LaBeouf look-alike will showcase his creative talents and represent the fellow Vanguard commuters. Standing in as Mr. People’s Choice is current senior and avid surfer, Ben Kelly. The Justin Bieber influenced mister will surely have the crowd dancing along with him.
Representing Mr. Leadership will be SGA vice-president, Lucas Brawner. His Will Ferrell-esque appearance will be standing on stage, likely entertaining the audience with his charm and humor. Also competing will be transfer baseball player, Shaniel Rivera. With his confident humor and Chris Brown resemblance, he is sure to put on a great show for fellow Vanguardians. Finally, this year’s Mr. Fine Arts is the sarcastic theater major, Austin Nunn, portraying the thriftshop hipster, Macklemore.
Only one of these suitors will be crowned as this year’s Mr. VU. Come watch the sure-to-be entertaining production and support your Vanguard mister.
