With two meets canceled, the Men and Women’s Track team didn’t let that stop them from incredible accomplishments this past weekend.
With such little time to qualify for indoor nationals, Vanguards Men and Women’s track team went out and put on a great show at their first meet.
Competing at the On Your Mark meet in Santa Barbara held by Westmont University, the Lions performed extremely well. Many athletes who could have contributed to a win couldn’t compete because of injuries and sickness.
Out of 7 teams, the Vanguard Men and Women’s team both finished 4th place overall with 115 points.
One fantastic performance came from freshmen, Ayana Chambers breaking the 100M hurdle school record with a time of 16.38 from last season which was held by Ashley Ramsey. “It feels good! Very exciting to break the record as a freshmen. A huge goal of mine for this year.”
Jarome Grant placing 3rd in hurdles with a personal record of 16.09 and seasons best of 23.54 in the 200m. “Being injured for a while now, I didn’t expect that much from the race. After going over one of the hurdles coming out of blocks, I was planning to scratch the race but somehow I found it inside of myself to man up and just do it.” His time placed 3rd in the record book.
Other great performances came from Briena Barclay placing 2nd in hammer with a seasons best of 81 feet 9 inches and Javelin with a throw of 102 feet 4 inches placing her 5th in the record book. Israel Berry placed 3rd in the 400M with a time of 50.49 and a time of 22.78 in the 200M putting him 9th in the record book.
With the teams hard work on the track and in the weight room, hopefully they will go out to other meets and put on more tremendous performances.
