For the first time ever, Balport, Vanguard’s junior and senior dorms, will be hosting a Haunted House at the school’s annual Harvest Party. On October 30th, those who dare to walk through the haunted halls of Newport will greeted by a straight-faced, monotone speaking bellhop who will accompany them into the elevator that leads to the haunted zone, located on Newport’s 2nd and 3rd floor.
Please note that witches and demons will not be found in the haunted house. They were strictly uninvited to the event for the sake of Balport’s Haunted House seeming cliché and demonically focused.
“Halloween is often known as pagan holiday that’s all about witches, but the haunted house is not trying to touch on those things,” comments Michael Avila, “We just want to make a thrill for people to enjoy.”
In an effort to create a memorable thrill, the Balport staff has creatively crafted a storyline that carries throughout the series of quads. This storyline will also tie into the overall theme of the Harvest Party: Run Down Carnival. Although the story itself is captivating, the thrill that Vanguard students will experience as they walk through the haunted halls will be greater.
“We’re trying to make the Haunted House as scary as possible. We don’t want it to be like a sissy thing,” remarks Newport’s 3rd floor RA, Brandon Franco.
Katherine Ramirez, Balboa’s 1st floor RA, affirms Franco by saying, “The Haunted House is more like a scare house. Basically like the corn maze that was in the cove last year, but with more of an intricate scare.”
Through including the Haunted House in the Harvest Party this year, the Balport and SGA staff hopes to provide something fun and exciting for the attendees to participate in. They also hope that it will add a little spice to the traditional Harvest Party. The party starts this Thursday at 9:30 PM at the Balport lawn.
