Students who like the cafeteria’s new coffee can look forward to more items being introduced to Vanguard’s menu.
New General Manager, Heidi Ballis, says she want to bring “new flavors to the cafe.” Already, the cafe has added waffle cones at the ice cream station and a new brand of coffee.
Two weeks ago, Groundwork Coffee replaced Seattle’s Best, exciting the student body.
“The ‘Vanguard Blend’ is super, super good” says sophomore Joshua McLenachen. “Whenever I go, if it’s there, I usually have 2 to 3 cups.”
When Ballis was hired at the beginning of the semester, she noticed a lot of disappointment in the cafeteria’s coffee. She got numerous complaints from students and staff alike.
In response, she contacted Groundwork Coffee, who she says are already established at other accounts, including Soka and Biola University. Ballis also brought smoothies into Outtakes the same week.
The smoothies and waffle cones where selected from Bon Appetit, while Groundwork was selected from the parent company, Compass.
Within a week, Ballis hopes to introduce a new organic tea to the cafeteria to compliment the fixed black tea. In bringing these changes, Ballis hopes to make the cafeteria more enjoyable, “to taste something new and more refreshing.”

Arianna C, the supervisor was the actual one to bring Ground Works into the Caf. I am a student worker and she was talking about Ground Works in last semester. Thank you Arianna!
