With New York Fashion Week ending, the fall fashion season has begun. When cold weather arrives we are quick to grab a sweater and scarf. However, this season’s fall trends bring new ways to spruce up your closet.
Colors take center stage this season by mixing a wide assortment of shades to bring life to an outfit. Black and blue are traditional fall colors, however, by adding both colors in bold pieces seem to be a hit this fall.
Other typical fall hues such as burgundy and burnt autumn colors are coming back this season, but winter white has been all over fashion runways and gives us a new color choice that will make any outfit stand out.
Having a bold color choice may be great, but patterns and prints are making a big splash this fall.
Stripes return after always being a staple pattern, as well as polka dots, which seem to be a favorite pattern for sweaters this season.
Also mixtures of the classic chevron pattern are favored on coats and comfy long sleeves. Reptile prints will make an appearance this fall as well as floral prints, which have been in style for the last few seasons.
Fashion writers Joyann King and Kerry Pieri from fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar encourage fashionistas to mix it up. “Your grandmother’s closet will be at the top of your shopping list next fall, with a retro mix of florals and lace, knit tweeds and, yes, shawls making the sartorial cut,” they said.
Whenever you may be stuck on a drab outfit, prints and patterns can easily make any getup much more favorable.
Military style garments are returning once again with rugged pieces and clean lines. Editor Christene Barberich of fashion and style blog, Refinery 29, explains the military trend is most versatile because you can grab an army jacket and dress it up or down for a more casual or dressed up look.
Fabrics are also an essential part of this year’s fall fashion trends. Most designers during New York Fashion Week displayed clothes with velvet ranging from dresses to outerwear.
Fur and faux fur are making a big statement, coming in atypical colors such as bright purple and red.
Accessories are always encouraged, especially when you are on the run and can’t take time to carefully plan out an outfit. Hats ranging from large to small, with prints or solid colors are a vital part for fall fashion this year. Staples like scarves and gloves will always remain for comfort and extra accessories.
Fall season is officially in full swing. Now is the time to update your closet and have fun experimenting with new patterns and materials to create a chic, updated fall style.
