VU Junior Starts Musical Ministry

Melgar Ministries is a one-person music ministry program founded by junior David Melgar. Melgar travels around Southern California, especially to Hispanic churches, sharing not only his love for music, but also his love for the Lord through the songs he has composed.

“The vision of Melgar Ministries is to proclaim God’s Kingdom through music and lyrics,” Melgar said. “The general purpose is to create lyrics that motivate not only myself, but others that hear it so that they can reflect on it and use it for their own lives.”

Melgar began singing at the age of 12. Since then, he has pursued music by being involved in church choirs and worship bands. The year before he came to Vanguard, he began to compose music and perform his original songs.

In the summer of 2009, Melgar had the opportunity to record his first professional album in El Salvador. He especially enjoyed touring Central America and working with a producer; this is where he really felt like he was able to reach people and they were very open to his ministry.

Melgar maintains that his ministry would have never happened without the help of the Lord.

“It really started from the heart and from just calling on God,” Melgar said.

He felt that God had a huge purpose not only for him through music, but also for his entire family. By founding Melgar Ministries, he hopes to lay a foundation that the rest of his family can build upon. Melgar hopes that the members of his family will be encouraged to hone their talents and develop their own ministries, whether they be preaching, music, or anything else that serves God.

Melgar Ministries is currently in the process of re-releasing Melgar’s first album of original works, “A New Anointing.” Melgar Ministries itself is undergoing a massive redesign procedure and is therefore not putting on any events in the near future.

However, Melgar Ministries is affiliated with the Joy Jazz Corporation and performs at events sponsored by the Joy Jazz Co. These events include local concerts and benefits at local churches. Participating in events such as these offers Melgar Ministries the opportunity to promote and publicize on a personal level as it launches the new design for both the album and for the company itself.
