Seniors Required to Earn Spiritual Formation Credits

The new Spiritual Formation policy requires seniors to earn 30 Spiritual Formation credits, just like all other students. Half of a senior’s credits can be earned by using Soul Care options.

There are many opportunities for Soul Care credit. These opportunities can be one-time events or ongoing.

“I’m excited because this semester we will have over 200 opportunities for students to earn Spiritual Formation credits through chapels and Soul Care options. Also, I’ve been so encouraged by the creativity of students in their creation of Soul Care options,” Campus Pastor Vince Beresford said.

Students that do not meet their chapel requirement will need to make up the credits. One option is to do a one-hour community service project or pay a $10 processing fee for each missing credit. Another option is to do a two-page reflection paper. Reflection papers can either be on community service or on an MP3 or CD of a chapel service.

There are also specific consequences for students that do not fulfill the requirement. Students missing Spiritual Formation credits will not be able to register the following semester. All work to make up credits must be turned in before students can register. This policy applies to returning students.

“There has been confusion in regard to a senior’s responsibility to earn Spiritual Formation credit. For the record, all full-time students–seniors included–are responsible to earn 30 Spiritual Formation credits. I think this confusion has happened because, while this policy has always been in place, it was never enforced,” Beresford said.

Beresford believes that Spiritual Formation is not just chapel.

“Our desire is for students to take ownership of their walk with Christ and see it lived out in every aspect of their lives, in missional living,” Beresford said.
