Everyone has a unique story to tell. As a successful contemporary worship leader, senior Brandon Muchow is sharing with the world a story that everyone should hear. However, it is not his story he is publicizing—it’s God’s.
Muchow is a renowned singer, songwriter, musician and worship leader.
“I’m passionate about being a pastor that also plays music,” Muchow said. “I feel like the church is where I belong.”
Leading worship has allowed Muchow to travel all over the world to share God’s story. He has visited countries including Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, England and Scotland.
“I like to say I started leading worship by accident,” Muchow said. “God brought me to ministry.”
Like Jeremiah in the Bible, God chose Muchow to do great things. In high school, Muchow wanted to be a professional drummer when he grew up.
“The drums were my first love,” he said. “I had no interest in leading worship whatsoever.”
However, when students at school approached him to lead worship at on-campus Christian-based club, he reconsidered. His dad and his brother showed him a few chords on the guitar, and the next day he was leading worship at his high school.
Since discovering his love for worship, it has been a long journey for Muchow. He began leading worship at Saddleback church in Lake Forest, where his father was (and currently is) the music pastor. Today, Muchow is the contemporary worship leader at St. Andrews Presbyterian church.
When Muchow decided to major in Music ministry, his father supported him.
“Whatever you do, as long as you’re passionate about it and love to do it, then do it,” Muchow says his father has encouraged him.
Muchow has released three albums: “Cornerstone,” “Where I’m Supposed to Be” and “Savior of the Streets.” He recorded “Savior of the Streets” with his band from Vanguard. All of the proceeds from record sales has been donated to an effort to send children in Africa to school.
“When I came to Vanguard I felt like my life was at a halt,” Muchow said. “Where I’m Supposed to Be” is one of the songs he has written that is most dear to him.
The chorus goes as follows: “This wall is too high for me to climb/ Walls could be bigger doors in disguise / Where I am I don’t understand where I’m heading / But maybe waiting is where I’m supposed to be…”
Muchow recently received a quarterly report notifying him that he had received 300,000 hits on a free internet radio site called Pandora.
Not only is Muchow thriving in his album sales, he has also had the privilege to work with Disney. He records demos for newly written songs. He has even recorded demos for the Jonas Brothers and his voice is featured in the Disney Channel original movie, StarStruck.
Muchow has an incredible enthusiasm to serve the Lord and to make a difference in the world.
“I’m passionate about serving the church and bringing peace to social injustice,” Muchow said. “I feel like the church will be able to do these things through the power of God and I want to be a part of it.”
“I’ve always said, ‘Whatever it is, do it nothing less than passionately,’” Muchow said. “Like Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, ‘whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might.’”
If students would like to check out Brandon Muchow’s music, all three of his albums are on iTunes.
