Thursday, February 18, was the Stunt team’s first game back. They were ahead against the Concordia Eagles during the first three quarters. However, the team got comfortable during the fourth quarter which unfortunately led to their loss. It was their first game, so there’s only room to improve from there.
Friday, February 18, the Stunt team looked better on the mat. Vanguard was only one point ahead in the third quarter, but pushed hard during the fourth quarter to score almost every point during that quarter. Although they did pull out a win, team member Asha Gilbert said, “I don’t think we did our personal best.” There is still plenty of time in the season to reach their peak performance.
Sunday, February 20, Vanguard competed at a high level. It was definitely their best game of the weekend. Alma College is the NCAA D3 2021 National Stunt champions. Vanguard put up an amazing fight though. They kept the score of the game low throughout. The team pushed through the entire game, keeping it close. Losing by one point in this game, did not feel like a loss. They played an incredible match.
Asha Gilbert said, “Alma College said they had a really fun time playing us and they would love to play us again. This means that we are a hard team to play, and we are both similar in skill. We also hosted Concordia Irvine, and they played Alma before us and lost 19-13. We were also only one of three teams who has scored double digits playing Alma College this season.”
Vanguard University’s Stunt team is currently the NAIA Stunt National Champions. Although Vanguard Stunt went 2-1 on the weekend, it is a great starting place for the season. It’s looking to be a great season for Stunt.
